Good news from Ivory Coast
From the BBC. Ivory Coast’s president and prime minister have set fire to stockpiled weapons to symbolise the end of the two men’s five-year conflict. It was the first time that President Laurent Gbagbo had gone to the former rebel-held north since 2002, when an uprising against him split the country.
Prejudice
In these politically correct days we are, quite rightly, not allowed to make generalisations about any particular race or ethnic group. … unless they are Americans, of course. All Europeans know that the citizens of the United States are all gun crazy, right wing, obese protestant fundamentalists. Of course, the truth is that generalisations of […]
Language in Africa
The latest edition of Encounters mission ezine (horrible word, I know) has a superb article by Jim Harries on the use of languages in Africa. He is mainly looking at the education scene, but touches tangentially on the issue of Bible Translation, it is well worth a read. You can find the PDF here.
For more on the continuing story of the persecution of CU’s in the UK, read what Cranmer has to say here. You might want to check your calendar first to make sure it isn’t the first of April. Any fictional writer who came up with a story line like this would be laughed out of […]
His Part of Colorado
Paul Merrill has recently left Kenya and his excellent My Part of Nairobi blog has been replaced by the equally worthwhile My Part of Colorado. I’ll update my blogroll eventually.
Sermons

Hamo is back!
Great news on the missional blogging front – Andrew Hamilton has restarted posting on his Backyard Missionary blog. The last few days have seen a positive blizzard of posts. You can learn more than you want about coffee houses in West Australia, and read a good deal of stuff about what church can look like […]
News from Ivory Coast
It is our unfortunate experience that Ivory Coast only gets mentioned in the Western media when something goes wrong so it was sad to read this article on the BBC website. The United Nations is investigating allegations of widespread sexual abuse and exploitation by peacekeepers serving in Ivory Coast. The UN said a unit of […]
For the Glory of God
One of the books I read on holiday was For the Glory of God: How Monotheism Led to Reformations, Science, Witch-Hunts, and the End of Slavery by Rodney Stark. Subtitled, “How monotheism led to reformations, science, witch-hunts and the end of slavery” this is really a very worthwhile read. It is a scholarly book with […]
