From ASBO Jesus. I worry that with all of the financial crisis we are facing, western Christians will continue to fund programmatic activities, and that mission will suffer. God give us wisdom as to how we use our money as things start to get tight.

Of House Moves
At a rough guess, this is the 21st house move that we’ve had in our married life. Thankfully, we weren’t chaging country or continent this time; in fact we were only moving five miles down the road. Mind you, the great thing about moving to and from Africa is that we never took much stuff […]
Thoughts on Bible Translation
Bible Scholar, Douglas Magnum, has just completed an introductory Bible translation course. His short reflections make interesting reading: 1. Translation is hard work. It really is impossible to fully translate a text. 2. That’s because translation involves making difficult choices. 3. Those choices inevitably involve loss on the balance between form and meaning. Moving
Once again, we are surrounded by boxes. After six months of trying to buy a house, we are finally moving tomorrow. This means there will probably be a hiatus in blogging as it will be a while before phone and broadband are up and running again. We’ll try and post a few photographs of the […]
Bruce has tagged me with a meme about the way in which blogging has changed my life. The rules are: 1. Write about 5 specific ways blogging has affected you, either positively or negatively. 2. Link back to the person who tagged you. 3. Link back to L.L. Barkat who created the meme. (He is […]
Reading the Bible On Behalf of the World
In a meditation on Psalm 2, Brian makes these excellent remarks: In our 21st century context, it is crucial for missional leaders to always read the Bible on behalf of the world. Within the Church, we have a tendency to read the Scriptures only from the perspective of insiders. Many preachers and teachers routinely rage […]
Back to Church Sunday
Today is Back to Church Sunday in the UK. I think the idea of inviting people who used to come to church to return for a Sunday is a rather nice idea and I hope that lots of people were invited and responded positively. I was surprised that the back to church thing made it […]
A Pagan Temple?
Ben has been posting some interesting, light-hearted reflections on ancestor worship in England. It has been interesting to see an African take on British life (here and here, for example). This morning, Sue and I took a quick trip into Oxford and visited Blackwell’s bookshop which is place I treat with special reverence. There is […]
From the Daily Telegraph: Those travelling on a Chinese Shandong airlines flight were asked to get out and push when their plane broke down after landing. The CRJ7 plane with 69 passengers and seven aircrew flying from Guilin in the south of China to Zhengzhou broke down before it could taxi to the arrivals terminal. […]
Ten Commandments of Blogging
A week ago, I had a very pleasent lunch with Krish Kandiah of the Evangelical Alliance talking about how to get British Churches more interested in the Bible. Today, Krish has taken a step up in the social stakes and gets a mention in Times columnist Ruth Gledhill’s blog. The context is the outcome of […]
