This video is twenty minutes long, so you need to set aside some time to watch it, but it is very worthwhile. It comes from the amazing TED.

A New Bible Translation Website
The Word is Life is a new web resource from Wycliffe International. It has an excellent collection of stories, information and fuel for prayer all related to Bible translation for minority communities. On a slightly bragging note, I wrote some of the articles on the site. There is no prize for spotting which ones!
This is a talk I gave recently introducing the work of Wycliffe Bible Translators. Something I’d like to point out is that the talk starts talking about God and his work in the world, rather than talking about the organisation. When we talk about Christian mission we must always start with God and his redeeming […]
After yesterday’s post about one of the fringes of the Bible Translation world, it was good to come across an article today that was very much on the right lines. Ethiopianchurch blog interviewed Dr. Loren Bliese who is retiring after working in Ehtiopia with United Bible Societies for 44 years. Here are a few extracts […]
Celebrities and Africa
Dambissa Moyo, author of Dead Aid: Why aid is not working and how there is another way for Africa points out how bizarre it is that we allow European celebrities to be the voice of Africa.
Proud Dad Pictures
These photos have appeared on Facebook, so I don’t feel too bad about embarassing Dave and Sam by putting them on here too. Both were taken in the last few weeks; Dave at his graduation ceremony and Sam clinging onto a rock face somewhere in Turkey. Both, in their different ways, make me feel pretty […]
A Rather Odd Translation of the Bible
The internet is a great place if you like conspiracy theories. If you dig around enough you can find all sorts of explanations for JFK’s death, the Apollo moon landings and what have you. Because I have automatic searches running that identify any sites that are talking about Bible translation, I’m forever running up against […]
Renewable Energy
Renewable energy has to be a good idea. Getting electricity or heat from non-polluting, self-replacing sources surely has to be part of our future. Of course there are problems with the technologies. Solar panels are expensive and not very efficient and on a summer’s day like today in England they are more likely to be […]
The Relational Trinity
When we affirm with Scripture that “God is love” (1 Jn 4:18 NIV), this points not simply to the feelings of God but also to the eternal life of God lived in a set of ongoing and active relationships of love that constitute God’s being in and for Godself. These are the active relationships of […]
Getting the Right Meaning
I’ve long been a fan of the Net Bible, not least because it includes an extensive set of excellent translators’ notes. Michael Burer is assistant director of the Net Bible project and he has just blogged about a new note which was added to Joshua 8:18. I just put the finishing touches on a new […]
