Reflex Actions

The urge to check the pigeon holes in the Abidjan SIL office when I arrived last night was overwhelming. My brain knows full well that it’s six and a half years since we lived here and that the Arthur family no longer have a mail box here, but that wasn’t enough to stop me going to look.

It’s very strange being back in Abidjan. So much is familiar, the photographs on the walls, the sound of footsteps in the hallway, the heat and humidity – time has moved on and I’m no longer part of things here. Still, many of my friends are here: Josias and Didier came to the airport with Myles to meet me and I’ve bumped into a few others already.

It’s good to be here.
