Thoughts on Singapore

I don’t think I’ve ever seen anywhere like this city. For a start, it is huge. Ok,it is just on an island, but the island seems to go on forever and a large part of it is covered with very impressive high rise buildings. Perhaps the most remarkable, is the Marina Bay Hotel: three huge skyscrapers with what looks like a big curved boat linking the tops of them. There are a few pictures of the hotel ad others taken from the top in the gallery below.

It was quite amusing to be in a taxi, caught in a traffic jam on a Grand Prix circuit the day after an F1 race, but it would have been even more fun to be here for the race itself. The other thing which strikes me about this city is that it is, for the most part, very, very expensive. No evening meals have been provided at the conference, so I have had to forage for my own food in the evenings. There are food courts with cheap noodles, but if you want to eat anything else – especially if you want to eat in a nice setting – then the meal is likely to cost an arm and a leg. This is very different to what I have experienced in other Asian cities. Still, only one more night here then I’m on a late flight back to Heathrow – I hope Sue will be up at six am to meet my flight (hint).

Did you get a chance to see the Night Zoo? I was quite impressed by that when I had an overnight stop in Singapore a few years back.

(BTW, the box to enter the CAPTCHA Code is almost invisible!)

I saw the Zoo during the day, but not at night.

I’ll have a look at the Captcha thing. I don’t control the way that appears, but I’ll see if I can find an alternative plugin.
