Dogs

bassam-closeup.jpgI’ve never met Lingamish (David Ker) but we’ve interacted online and he’s always seemed a nice enough chap – until his latest post that is.

Dogs. You like dogs? Ever had a dog for a pet? When you read about dogs in the Bible do you imagine “man’s best friend?” Why doesn’t the Bible have anything nice to say about dogs? Remember the movie “All Dogs Go To Heaven?” The story in the Bible is quite the opposite. In fact, the Book of Revelation could be subtitled, “All Dogs Go To Hell.”

14 “Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city. 15 Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood. (Rev. 22:15, NIV)

That’s right, folks. The good guys get to head into the eternal city but there’s a big sign on the gate that says, “No Dogs Allowed!”

All I can say is that if he wants to explain this to Bassam, he can. I daren’t.

Seriously, the post is well worth a read – it’s good stuff about interpreting the Bible.

Dear Bassam,

I know you understand me. I can tell by the look in your eyes. While dogs didn’t fare well in Hebrew culture, cats did far worse, not even getting a single mention in the Bible. Despite my lowly origins (I’m a Gentile, sometimes called dogs by the Biblical writers), I am precious in God’s eyes and so are you.
