Just imagine for a moment if God were not Trinity. If that were the case, we could not say that ‘God is love’, because there would have been nothing for him to love until the creation. Until God actually created something that he could love, he wouldn’t actually be love. However, the Triune God was linked in a loving series of relationships before the world was made. The Triune God truly is love and he would have been love even if he had never created human beings as an object for his love.
