A Dog’s Tale

I’m due to fly out to join Sue tomorrow morning. This is the first time that I’ve had the opportunity to go to Madagascar, so I’m really excited. But the last few days have been a little stressful.

A couple of weeks ago, Bassam had a small operation to remove a growth on her leg which was irritating her and which kept getting infected. The op was fine, no problems.

However, after a week, the wound wasn’t healing properly, so she was put on an extended course of antibiotics. Come Sunday, she started vomiting and then seemed to lose control of the leg where the wound was situated. A quick visit to the emergency vet and some antibiotic injections sorted out the wound, but she’s still hardly eaten for three days and was still vomiting a little yesterday.

The problem is that I can’t put her in kennels if she is still ill and I need to check her in this afternoon, so that I can leave first thing in the morning. Thankfully, Dave and Lina have volunteered to take her for a few days, which gives me a fallback, if I need it. If she gets through till this afternoon without vomiting, I’ll be happy to put her in kennels. So let’s see what happens.

Despite everything, I really wouldn’t want to live in a house without a dog!
