Emmanuel!

Christmas isn’t about God becoming man in order to whisk humanity off to some spiritual dimension. It is about God taking on the stuff of creation, so that the whole of creation could be restored and reconciled to the one who made it. Christ’s incarnation renews our humanity, it doesn’t reduce it.

Christmas; the time when Jesus took on human form,
So that men and women could be reconciled to Him and to each other.

Christmas, the time when heaven touched the earth,
Heaven touched the earth, to restore it to what it once was and to what it one day will be.

Christmas, the time when God took on human flesh, the stuff of creation,
In Him, humanity and the world, all things, will be made new.

In Eden, God walked in the Garden, to visit his creation,
At Christmas, God became man, to redeem and restore what was lost.

Against its will, all creation was subjected to God’s curse. But with eager hope, the creation looks forward to the day when it will join God’s children in glorious freedom from death and decay. For we know that all creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. And we believers also groan, even though we have the Holy Spirit within us as a foretaste of future glory, for we long for our bodies to be released from sin and suffering. We, too, wait with eager hope for the day when God will give us our full rights as his adopted children,[j] including the new bodies he has promised us.
Romans 8:20-23

and through him God reconciled
    everything to himself.
He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth
by means of Christ’s blood on the cross.
Colossians 1:20
