There is war in the Middle East and Central Africa, a growing worldwide refugee crisis and the ever present threat from climate change. People are suffering across the globe and it is good to see how Christians are responding to the problems of violence, injustice, displacement and poverty.
However…
There is a concern that as we respond to these needs we are losing a focus on actually proclaiming the Good News of Jesus. The message of salvation is not seen as a priority when there is so much suffering around the world. We want to deal with the problems that are in front of us today.
However, the most effective way to address the problems of injustice and poverty is to see communities transformed through an encounter with God and his Word. It’s a slow transformation, but it goes deeper than any other intervention.
These two videos from Wycliffe Bible Translators illustrate this point.
