of the Vista; of the alcohol

This is what you get when you translate the simple phrase out of sight; out of mind to and from five different European languages. The confusing link is that French translated mind as ésprit which comes back to English as spirit and which Spanish then translates as alcohol. It’s a lot of fun and you can try it yourself at the Lost in Translation website.

It’s rather worrying thinking about the implications for misunderstanding in Bible translation. Try typing in ‘God so loved the world’ to see what happens.
