Thoughts on Bible Translation

Bible Scholar, Douglas Magnum, has just completed an introductory Bible translation course. His short reflections make interesting reading:

1. Translation is hard work. It really is impossible to fully translate a text.
2. That’s because translation involves making difficult choices.
3. Those choices inevitably involve loss on the balance between form and meaning. (read more)

I don’t fully agree with all of his list (for example, translation is both an art and a science) but for the most part I like what he has written.
