Type Seven: The Enthusiast

EnneagramI’ve just been introduced to Enneagrams, a personality typing tool that looks as if it will be very useful. Certainly, some of the descriptions of strengths and weaknesses look helpful, if rather disconcerting. According to the online test which I took, I’m an enthusiast:

Sevens are extroverted, optimistic, versatile, and spontaneous. Playful, high-spirited, and practical, they can also misapply their many talents, becoming over- extended, scattered, and undisciplined. They constantly seek new and exciting experiences, but can become distracted and exhausted by staying on the go. They typically have problems with impatience and impulsiveness. At their Best: they focus their talents on worthwhile goals, becoming appreciative, joyous, and satisfied.

It would be hard for me to argue with this.

You can get your own Enneagram test by clicking on the picture. I might have more to say on this later if I can find the time to read around it. Meanwhile, take the test and let me know how you turn out in the comments.

If you are interested in such things, I’m a Myers-Briggs ENFP.

Don’t know about this (I’m a bit overdosed on personality/ learning styles questionnaires at the moment) but in case you are interested I did myers-briggs last week and came out an INFP πŸ™‚

I had to abort the test at about question ten because it had already set up too many false dichotomies for me. A professional counselor once told me that third culture kids often have difficulty with these kinds of personality tests. When I took a Myers-Briggs a while back, it was hard to determine whether I was E or I.

I couldn’t find a way to take the test without installing it on my desktop, but I remember when I was in Tanzania everyone was talking about it. I’m pretty sure I was a 9 – a.k.a. The lazy one that enjoys staring out the window…

Oh, so you mean you did not have to do this test before becoming a member? πŸ˜‰ Back then I tested as a 1, in this case called “the reformer”. Others call it “the Idealist.” In any case, this would make you as 7 my “comfort point”. πŸ™‚ Tickle.com also has an Enneagramm test.
