Cricket lovely cricket!

This post needs a cross-cultural warning. People who were not brought up in the British Commonwealth struggle to understand why cricket is so fascinating. I’m afraid that I can’t help much with that, but those who don’t love cricket do have my sympathy – you are missing a wonderful thing!

I spent eight hours yesterday watching England lose to Pakistan in a one day cricket match. I know that some folks find the idea of watching cricket for eith hours rather difficult to understand – but this is the quick form of the game. Real cricket takes five days to complete a match.

Despite the result, a good time was had by all and the surroundings of the Hampshire Rose Bowl were stunning.

phil.jpgPhil, who took me to the cricket deserves a big thank you, and certainly doesn’t deserve having this dreadful phone-camera shot placed on the Internet. Then again, we don’t always get what we deserve!

Watching cricket in the hot sun is thirsty work and, of course, some beer was consumed during the proceedings. This gives me the excuse to post the oddest missiological link that I’ve come across recently (thanks Paul).

One last comment. I’m not great shakes at spelling myself, so I shouldn’t mock. But even I was surprised by the sign on this catering van. Pasty.jpg
