Foolproof Methods for Mission

People get very enthusiastic about evangelistic techniques that they have found helpful, but just because something has worked once does not mean that it is a universal solution.

In today’s post I’m going to reveal to you the foolproof, Biblical way of doing mission. The one method that you need if you are to be a successful missionary or evangelist and a sure fire way of getting a great book deal.

The key to this amazing method is found in Acts 8: 6-8, where we find the Philip in the city of Samaria.

Crowds listened intently to Philip because they were eager to hear his message and see the miraculous signs he did. Many evil spirits were cast out, screaming as they left their victims. And many who had been paralyzed or lame were healed. So there was great joy in that city.

You see what he did there? Philip mixed preaching the message with signs and wonders and that brought great results. We just need to imitate him and we will see the same thing.

But …

If you read on in Acts 8, you find Philip talking to an Ethiopian official. There is no preaching and there are no miraculous signs, Philip simply and patiently explains the message of the Scriptures to one man. The result was the same; the Ethiopian went on his way rejoicing.

Within a few verses, Philip goes from dramatic preaching accompanied by miracles to a one-to-one Bible study and both methods result in people being filled with joy.

You see, there is no secret method for mission or evangelism. In different situations it is appropriate to do different things. People get very enthusiastic about evangelistic techniques that they have found helpful, but just because something has worked once does not mean that it is a universal solution.

The thing we learn from Philip is not how to do mission, we learn that we need to be flexible – and that is the secret for mission.

Now, about that book deal?
