Can’t help thinking your quote from David Wilson offers part of the answer too: Christian bookshops — where they’re done well, where they’re not just selling Left Behind Bears and other such tat — are ideally placed to meet that need, to show that following Jesus isn’t about wimping out but is about passionate commitment to a radical alternative way of life, involves engaging the brain not switching it off…
