Bible and Mission Links 29

The hardest thing there is in ministry is getting people to just open up their Bibles. Be a champion for getting people into the Word of God; don’t be a champion for getting people away from a translation.

All The Translations? Give Me Strength!

Meanwhile, as writers about English language Bible score cheap points off each other, there are something like 180 million people who don’t have a single word of Scripture available to them. This is the real scandal of our age; not the supposed emasculation of some translations in one language among the world’s 6,000 languages.

NT Wright On Bible Translation

“The question of translating scripture had already been faced when scribes, after the exile in Babylon, ‘interpreted’ the ancient Hebrew scriptures into Aramaic so the ordinary people could understand it. It was then faced even more directly by those who, somewhere between one and three hundred years before Jesus’ day, translated Israel’s scriptures from Hebrew and Aramaic into Greek. A scholar wanting a new Bible translation is like a lawyer wanting more laws. That’s […]

An ‘Interesting’ English Translation of the Bible

The problem with the Bible is that some bits of it are distinctly uncomfortable; what we really need is a translation that is uplifting, but which doesn’t actually disturb our way of life. Thankfully, Archdruid Eileen has come up with the answer to this problem; the NUSV. And so we have produced the Not So […]

English Translations: Two Good Articles

I don’t really want to blog about English translations of the Bible, but I don’t seem to be able to avoid it. Today, I came across a couple of good articles which I think will be of interest to readers of Kouyanet. The first is on the FIEC website and written by David Shaw and […]
