Discipleship

Mark has just written a superb and very moving post about discipleship. You can (and should) read the whole thing here. He concludes with this excellent quote:

To be a disciple or apprentice is to decide to be with another person in order to become capable of doing what that person does or to become what that person is. It is not a mystery; it is not rocket science, my son spent 4 years becoming a qualified carpenter, 4 years as an apprentice. To be an apprentice in any area of work is not to be perfect, my son began as a raw and incompetent apprentice but he still was an apprentice and now can build houses and complete renovations by himself but the skills he learned and witnessed will remain with him throughout his earthly existence.

By God’s wonderful grace, I have taken up an apprenticeship, Kingdom apprenticeship – proclaiming, manifesting and teaching that the Kingdom is here. Go therefore, He said, to every ethnic group and help them become my students. I am no longer a convert, a statistic to be added to some denominational roll – I am an active participant in the most dynamic movement – I am a disciple of Jesus Christ.
