Learning Arabic

Development worker, Philip Blue has just written an interesting little piece on his experiences learning Arabic:

Formal Arabic is renowned for being notoriously difficult while at the same time being beautiful to listen to. It has intricate grammar, clever word plays and beautiful caligraphy. But while newspapers, books TV news and radio are in formal Arabic, no one actually speaks it day-to-day. (Read the whole thing.)
