Birdwatching in Togo

I went birdwatching with some friends yesterday morning. I’m not quite sure why birds need to get out of bed quite so early, but they do seem to feel that it is needed and so birdwatchers are condemned to standing around with binoculars to their eyes at times of day when normal people are fast asleep. We saw lots of birds. Some of them were apparently quite rare, though they looked rather like the unrare ones to my untrained eyes. Even to me, the various types of kingfisher and heron were well worth getting up early in the morning to see. I took some photographs, too – but as you can see these are all of plants. Birds have this annoying habit of flying away when you try and get too close, plants stay still – at least most of them do!
