Top Ten Posts of 2014

Some reflections on what makes for really popular blog posts and why we won’t be publishing many of them in future!

For your delight and delectation, here is a list of the ten most viewed articles on Kouyanet for 2014.

There are a few things I can learn about successful blog posts from this list.

The first is that it is good to write posts that include things that people search for on Google. I wrote the post about twins seven years ago, but it still gets a few views every day. Likewise, people come to Kouyanet most days looking for the Patois Bible and books about mission. These posts are all relatively old, but get regular traffic.

Another lesson is that posts do well when lots of people (especially big-names) post them on Facebook or twitter. The rant about Bible verses, the John 3:16 post and the one on voluntourism all fall into this category.

What is clear, is that the bread and butter posts of Kouyanet, the discussions of how the world church is changing and how mission can and should respond, don’t generally gain much traction. If I really want to be a successful blogger, I need to write about something else. However, we are now into the tenth year of running this blog and we are not about to change what we do.

In the meantime, you might enjoy some of these posts, why not go and read one or two.
