Sanctification

Brian Russell has just made an excellent posting on sanctification.

I think that we can begin to rearticulate the holiness message for the 21st century in the inner cites (and around the world) by committing to speaking about holiness in positive terms rather than primarily in the negative. Holiness is not merely about the elimination of sin. It is about the unleashing of redeemed individuals to become all that God created them to be. In other words, perhaps we should teach holiness to persons by inviting them to experience their own humanity.

I had to allow myself a wry smile at the fact that an excellent posting about the need to communicate the reality of lives changed by Christ used two words, sanctification and holiness which are not well understood in contemporary society. This goes to show how difficult it is to explain the message of the Gospel (another difficult word) in our society.
