Airline Travel From the Other Side

There is a fascinating post on the Professional Pilots’ Rumour Network (pprune) where a senior purser with KLM describes her experiences on a flight to Africa. I recognise much of what she says from the other direction. This bit is so very true:

Pax start boarding. The usual African mix of missionaries, NGO staff, rich Africans in shiny suits, poor Africans in even shinier suits with their womenfolk looking like beautiful peacocks and the little girls with stiffly braided hair and tiny suits for the boys. The odd tourist and a host of UN flunkies. Few more minutes before doors closing.
