Is this article for real?? Surely people don’t actually think like this!
I don’t know what goes on in people’s minds, but the issue that Phil is pointing to here is a very real one. For the record, I don’t for a moment think that Phil thinks this way – he is just using humour to raise a really important point.
I definitely think this was meant to be tongue in cheek and was designed to point out that the church in America is not living as Christ intended.
I believe his point is, if Christians lived like missionaries generally do, with a 100% focus on serving Christ, then America would find a Christ worth serving.
I hope that makes sense.
Sadly, I don’t think this is what he was getting at. I think he is saying that both the Church in the US and many missionaries are not living in the way that Christ intended. This is sad but true – and before any non-Americans get to feeling superior – it happens with Europeans too!
Well… I won’t say it doesn’t happen in the mission field. But in the rest of the Church, it seems to be standard operating procedure.
